Born in Hilo, Hawaii, Siobhan Kekoa (Barrett) is a 5th Generation Afro-Indigenous Wabanaki-descent Designer and Artist, Traditional Medicine Practitioner, disabled Air Force Veteran, and solo parent.
My mediums include oil, watercolor, and mixed media paintings and drawings; and porcupine quill, bone, leather, stone, and beadwork jewelry. Steeped in ancestral Indigenous traditions, each piece is intentionally created with Good Medicine. While I've historically created at home or as a guest artist, I recently obtained my first art studio at Equinox Studios in Si'ahl (Seattle). My work has been exhibited and sold at shows and galleries since 2015, and my heirloom jewelry and prints can be found at the Burke Museum.
My Indigenous Elders of my Bear Clan Wabanaki lineage have honored me in learning, carrying forward, and preserving our unique style of quill earrings; art; and history. My Scot-Irish family has also long created as artists, and I hope to honor all my Elders, Ancestors, and Peoples through my work.
