Christina Robertson aka Nina Marie: My studio space works as a library of sorts

My studio space works as a library of sorts, filled with color coordinated papers, stamps, cards, paints and pencils. I have always had an interest in environmental awareness and my collage work consists of recycled materials that have been saved throughout the years. I love the colors that come in gifted cards, calendars, magazines—I cut these up to create new scenes of imagination and memory.

Sometimes I will work on canvas, and other times it may be on an old piece of cardboard. If I'm painting, I take the excess paint on my brush and organically lay it down on another surface, this will become the background of the new piece. I will typically have 4-5 artworks going at once—moving back and forth through ideas.

I love to overlay ink and paint to blend the edge of collaged papers, bringing the piece into another world, not knowing exactly where one material ends and another starts. Most of my artwork takes place over time, building upon layers, like the earth's sediment.
